As we mentioned in this post, there are lots of stories about “Pizza”; let’s discover three more.
Pizza and American people. It’s not true that Americans discovered pizza many years after the Italians. Actually, maybe they discovered it before them. The first New York pizzeria was opened in 1905 by Italian immigrant Gennaro Lombardi. Just 15 years after the pizza Margherita was invented. Success was immediate. Today, the most popular pizza in the USA is Pepperoni (with spicy salame).
Frozen pizza. Until a few years ago, the pizzeria Airport Pizza, in the Alaskan city of Nome, sent pizzas by plane to villages nearby that did not have a pizzeria. To optimise delivery costs, at least 30 orders were required (at 10 dollars each).
The fastest. In June 2014, Las Vegas hosted a competition to find the fastest pizzaiolo: an Englishman, Pali Grewal, won it by being able to prepare and put in the oven 3 pizzas in 32.28 seconds.
