Pizza dates back to ancient times and the name derives from the Latin word “pinsa”, which means to pound, to crush in Italian. In ancient times, the bread was laid out and baked on fiery stones, and served to accompany the main course.
Subsequently, the invention of ovens and the discovery of yeast by Egyptians transformed this simple flat bread into the current concept of pizza. The dough started to be seasoned initially with garlic and fat, then with oil and herbs, until tomato and mozzarella was introduced.
Thanks to these ingredients, the most ancient and popular pizza known as margherita was invented and are still used as the main and basic ingredients over which many other spices may be added today. Pizza bread was thus transformed from a simple food and side dish, to a main tasty and delicious course.
