Brownie cake is “square dark”, with a light crust and dense dough with chocolate and dried fruit.
It is made of eggs, sugar, butter, vanilla extract, flour and lots of chocolate fondant with dried fruit (walnuts and hazelnuts in particular).
The idea of making such a special cake comes from the origin of Brownies: an American sweet dating back to the late nineteenth century during the World’s Columbian Exposition: Mrs. Bertha Palmer, president of the largest trade show in Chicago, had to discover a “practical” sweet which was easier to eat. Thus the first Brownie was conceived after various confabs with Palmer House Hotel’s chef. The name derives from the brown colour.
This cake is loved by adults and kids and can be served in various ways depending on the creativity of the server. For example, it can be accompanied with fresh fruit, or for those who prefer a richer cake, vanilla ice cream or cream and whipped cream topping is another option.
